New Scam Targeting Seniors - What you need to know


With all the news around having your DNA tested for ancestry origins and health risks, it's no surprise that scammers are taking advantage of the situation.


A new scheme to convince seniors that Medicare is offering genetic testing (or DNA kits) to help diagnose health issues is being reported. Scammers explain to the potential victim that new DNA tests are available and will be paid for by Medicare. They then tell the victim that all they need to do is give them their Medicare number, social security number and address, and this new kit will be sent out to them immediately.


The Federal Trade Commission has issued a warning emphasizing that Medicare does not have DNA tests available. They also want seniors to know that Medicare will never call you unless they have already sent you a letter or are returning your call.
